It’s time to stop taking Washington seriously. How likely is it that Congress will deal with unsustainable deficits, climate change, decrepit infrastructure, unaffordable health care, muddled immigration policy, obsolete laws, unmanageable civil service, rigged electoral districts . . . ? The list of failures of our democratic government is getting long. Responsible reform seems hopeless.

Partiamo da una considerazione: questa volta non c’entra la giustizia ad orologeria al solito invocata da Berlusconi (chiedo scusa con uno degli interventori per non aver compreso l’ironia della sua affermazione), con disegni di condizionamento del potere politico, come il non toccare gli stipendi dei magistrati. Da questo scandalo chi ha da guadagnare è il M5s e chi ha da perdere più degli altri è il Pd, che potrebbe vedere deluse le sue aspettative di trionfo. E voi credete che la procura milanese possa avere di questi disegni?

Au nom de l’UE, Catherine Ashton a juste demandé une commission d’enquête pour savoir ce qui s’est passé ce jour maudit, comme si chacun l’ignorait. On connaît l’engrenage qui a conduit au face à face entre les séparatistes et les manifestants pro-Kiev. On sait que parmi ces derniers il y avait des activistes d’extrême droite du parti Pravy sektor. Ce sont eux qui ont incendié la Maison des Syndicats avant de regarder griller ceux qui y étaient pris au piège. Des témoignages en font foi, des photos circulent, aucun doute n’est possible. Mais la presse met l’éteignoir, à l’instar du Monde, journal pour lequel quoi qu’il se passe, la conclusion est toujours la même : « La responsabilité russe est écrasante ».

The government has set up the world’s biggest anti-retroviral treatment program for HIV/AIDS.

The Ukrainian crisis has not radically changed the international situation but it has precipitated ongoing developments. Western propaganda, which has never been stronger, especially hides the reality of Western decline to the populations of NATO, but has no further effect on political reality. Inexorably, Russia and China, assisted by the other BRICS, occupy their rightful place in international relations.
