British aid to train Ukrainian riot troops


While ministers have insisted the funds spent directly by the Department for International Development must go on poverty relief projects in a handful of the very poorest countries, Brussels spends much of its aid budget on helping Europe's neighbours to adopt a European way of life. That has included £2 billion in Ukraine since the collapse of the USSR in 1991 in order to prepare it for one day joining the bloc.
